Luci’s Quilt

My wonderful sister-in-law Jeannie and her friend Carol wanted to have a T-shirt quilt made for their mutual friend Luci.  I agreed to do it.  They had gathered all the shirts and worked out a design so it was not going to be a surprise.  During the construction there were some choices and decisions for Luci to make and I got to know her enough to see why Jeannie and Carol think so much of her.

This is the first T-shirt quilt I’ve made without sashing.  The trick seems to be to determine which square has to be the largest and make all the others the same size.  In this case, the largest design was the pink square in the third row so all the blocks had to be 14×14.  Some of them got borders to fill in some of the blank space and others got borders to keep them from clashing with their neighbors.  The finished quilt is full/queen size.

This is the quilt spread out on our queen size bed.

Here’s Luci receiving her quilt.   Some of the shirts have great emotional and sentimental meaning to her and she was a bit overcome.
