Aunt Eloise wanted to make a quilt for her grandson Tommy Bargeron.\u00a0\u00a0 She wanted it to be Farm Boys ( Sunbonnet Sam) like the quilts her own mother made.\u00a0 I had a picture of one of my Grandmother’s Farm Boys quilts, so I made a pattern for Aunt Eloise and also sent her some fabric I thought would be good for hats and shoes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Aunt Eloise was in a nursing home, but she had a sewing machine and did all sorts of crafts.\u00a0 I told her that if she’d make the blocks, I’d finish the quilt for her.<\/p>\n

Well, she never got around to it.\u00a0 One day I had a small package in the mail and found she had returned the pattern and fabric.\u00a0 I knew she was disappointed, so I took on her mission.<\/p>\n

I used one of the freezer paper techniques for the applique.\u00a0 Grandmother had embellished the Sunbonnet Sue quilts with embroidered flowers on the hat.\u00a0\u00a0 Boys don’t wear flowers in their hats, but they do wear fancy hat bands and sometimes stick feathers in their hats.<\/p>\n

I used the letter stitch on the Pfaff to make a label and sent the finished quilt to Aunt Eloise so she could give it to Tommy.<\/p>\n

Right now one of the few uses I would have for an embroidery machine is to make custom labels.<\/p>\n
