My friend Debbie retired as a travel agent. ( But she hasn’t quit traveling.) She wanted a quilt to remind her of her favorite places. Since she has done some sewing herself, she had collected some lovely destination fabrics, ordered some custom fabrics from Spoonflower and raided my stash for more fabrics that reminded her of great trips. It’s somewhere between 88 and 92 squares ranging from 8×8 inches to 1×1.5 inches. A great geometry exercise to arrange them and figure out how to sew them together.
Some of the fabrics are stunning, so here are some details. Most are ‘pictures’ except for 2 African pieces, a blue and white batik from Hawaii and an aborigine design from Australia.
Debbie found some fabric that was perfect for the backing, but she only got 2 yards which was the constraining factor in the size of the quilt. Fortunately she just wanted it to be a lap quilt to snuggle under while watching TV.
