Another item for Carol Roger’s Paralympic Kayakers group. Carol said it looks ‘architectural’ with the layout of the kayaks.
Rag quilts are made with the seams on the front and the seams are clipped to make a fringe. Washing them makes the fringe soft and fluffy. It also creates a HUGE amount of lint . My washing machine has a self cleaning filter and I’m always afraid this step will stop something up, so I take my rag quilts to the laundromat – I’m sure it’s not the worst thing that happens to the machines there. This picture shows the fluffy fringe.
Up to now, my rag quilts have been made with a top and 2 layers of flannel to give them weight and warmth. That makes the fringe REALLY thick with 6 layers of fabric. So for this quilt, I used up a lot of batting remnants by putting a square of batting in each block. it is trimmed so that it will got get into the fringe. It also requires that each block have some quilting to hold the batting in place, but that’s pretty easy since I can quilt each block before I even sew them together. Now the fringe is still luxurious, but not too thick.
