This started with an old quilt top I got from my cousin Gloria. She’s not sure who made it – probably our grandmother or her mother. The fabrics feel like they include some polyester, so it can’t have been made much before 1960. More than one person may have worked on the top – some of it was hand sewn and some machine stitched. This is another case of an old quilt top that won’t be devalued by using 2016 materials and techniques to turn it into something useful that can be displayed.
The original top was badly stained. I washed it and carefully replaced about 10 discolored squares with very similar fabric from my stash.
I just love the pastel paisley fabric I found for the backing. The quilt has 3 borders – lavender, white with a machine stitched design in variegated pink thread, and a green print. Very feminine.
I did make a label for this one. Usually I just stitch my initials and the year inconspicuously into one corner.
