I’d been playing with cross designs for some time. A quilting magazine had a pattern I thought was ugly, but I realized by tweaking it in several ways, I could use it for crosses. I was thinking about Reid’s brother Bill who is a deacon in the Catholic church, so I customized it for him, using the colors of vestments. The solid color centers of the crosses are free motion quilted with different designs.
I found this green Easter print with crosses to use for the back. When it was time to put the back on, it didn’t look right. So I cut out some of the crosses and used them with a blue that goes with the front. If I had to do this over, I’d use ivory or off-white, but that would not be as practical since it would show dirt much more readily.
