Some of the fabric I had been given was muddy browns, oranges and plaids – nothing I would have chosen. I was taught not to waste anything, so I thought I would use up some of this fabric and get it out of the way. To my surprise, the little log cabin quilt turned out rustic and masculine.

I also learned that the log cabin pattern is fun and easy, but if I want the blocks to be flat and square, I’d better measure the strips.
