Original design. It took a couple of years to make all the horse blocks, partly because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them. It was really hard to embroider the manes, pulling the needle through multiple layers of pieced block. When I ran out of steam, I decided to make two paddock blocks instead of the last two horses.
The back of this quilt is a horse print I found a Wal-Mart before it stopped selling fabric. I was just starting to learn about free motion quilting and stitched horse shoes in the border, but they don’t show up much on the daisy print. This may be a good thing – it was one of my early attempts at free motion quilting.
