Carol wanted to make a quilt for her daughter. She had started before but didn’t use interfacing on the T-shirts. By the time she interfaced them and squared them up, the shirts were not all the same size.
The plan was to make a bed sized quilt out of 30 blocks – 5 x 6. The largest T-shirt was about 14″, so we added borders to the other squares to make them the same size. A couple of squares included small t-shirt designs. The one Carol really liked was the square that included the pocket from a pair of pants. Carol said she could put notes to her daughter in the pocket.
I helped Carol design the blocks with more than one shirt, but she sewed the rest of the quilt top herself. Since her machine really wouldn’t handle quilting something this large, I did put it together and quilt it for her on my Janome with 11″ clearance.
I just love the backing fabric that Carol chose. It’s happy and playful and bright. Plus it looks perfect with the aqua dotted front border and binding.
What a loving Christmas present for Carol’s daughter!
